MRI uses a magnetic field and radio waves to create detailed images of organs and soft tissues. It does not use X-rays.
What to expect
You lie on a table while images are taken. The scanner makes loud sounds, and you will be asked to remain still. Some studies require contrast.
Before your visit
Tell the team about implants, medical devices, pregnancy, or concerns about enclosed spaces before your visit. The center will provide screening and preparation instructions.

Questions to confirm when scheduling
Ask which identification, insurance information, referral or order, and prior images you should bring. Confirm your arrival time and how long to allow for your appointment; timing depends on the study ordered.
